Driver Hits Three Tractor Trailers in Parking Lot and Leaves, Police Say

The man hit the trucks in the Travel Centers parking lot in Foristell. Missouri Highway Patrol trooper located the driver in a rest area west of Wright City.

An out-of-state man collided with three commercial trucks in the Travel Centers of America parking lot in Foristell and left the scene, police said.

Michael Bennett, 54, of Stockbridge, GA, hit three trucks in the parking lot at about 6:44 p.m. Feb. 13, and a 2011 Freightliner received more than $1,000 in damages, according to Foristell Police. He then left the parking lot and went west on Interstate 70, police said.

A Missouri Highway Patrol trooper located Bennett at the rest area west of Wright City and took him back to the Travel Centers parking lot.

Bennett told officers, “I know I should have stayed,” according a to a court document.

Police said his blood-alcohol level at the time of the accident was 0.11 percent. The legal limit is 0.08 percent.

Bennett was charged Feb. 14 with leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated.

Bail was set at $5,000, cash only.
