Lake Saint Louis Continues Sobriety Checkpoints Through End of March

The Lake Saint Louis Police Department are conducting sobriety checkpoints in conjunction with the St. Charles County DWI Task Force.

The Lake Saint Louis Police Department is continuing its sobriety checkpoints through the end of March.

The checkpoints, which are being conducted in conjunction with the St. Charles County DWI Task Force, are located and various sites in the city of Lake Saint Louis and are aimed at reducing the number of intoxicated driver-related accidents that occur on roadways.

All checkpoints will be conducted at or near problem areas, the police department said in a press release.

The checkpoints will involve briefly stopping traffic to check for intoxicated drivers. Intoxicated drivers will be arrested. Others will be allowed to proceed after a short delay. 

“Area motorists may be slightly inconvenienced by these checks,” said Chief Michael Force.  “However, cooperation and patience from citizens will assist in this important public safety effort.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, alcohol involvement remains the leading factor in motor vehicle deaths. Out of a total 784 vehicle deaths in 2011 in Missouri, 258 were alcohol-impaired fatalities.
