Lake Saint Louis Man Dies After Crash on I-64

The driver's medical condition may have caused the one-car accident Tuesday evening.

Daniel L. Rich, 69, of Lake Saint Louis was pronounced dead at SSM St. Joseph West Hospital after a one-car accident on Interstate 64 Tuesday evening, Dec. 27.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Rich was driving a 2011 Cadillac westbound on I-64 east of Highway N when he suffered a medical condition that caused him to accelerate. Sharon S. Rich, 64, a passenger in the car, tried to steer but the car went off the left side of the road, through the center median cable barrier, then back to the right through the cable barrier a second time. The vehicle came to a stop straddling the cable barrier.

Both of the car's occupants were transported to St. Joseph West Hospital, where Daniel Rich was pronounced dead. Sharon Rich received minor injuries in the crash.
