Police Chief Urges Residents to Slow Down and Pay Attention

Lake Saint Louis Police Chief Michael Force warns residents not to let inattention become a habit.

(The following press release was submitted by the Lake Saint Louis Police Department.)

Vehicles exceeding the posted speed limit continues to pose a threat to the safety of motorists and pedestrians alike, specifically on Charlemagne Drive, Fox Hound, Fox Trail and Dauphine Drive, Lake Saint Louis Police Chief Michael Force reported.

“Our residents enjoy a lifestyle that supports outdoor activities and an atmosphere where people enjoy walking, running and biking.  It is our job as law enforcement professionals to do everything in our power to ensure their safety and it is the responsibility of our community at large to help us in that regard," Force said.

Chief Force stressed that many motorists who violate traffic laws do so out of inattention.  “Unfortunately, that inattention tends to become habit. People who drive the same routes regularly may only hesitate at regulated intersections instead of making a full stop. They get into a habit of driving over the speed limit. They stop using their blinkers, follow too close and otherwise disregard the safety of others."

"Most recently a resident’s pet was hit and killed when someone traveling too fast left the roadway and entered her front lawn.  We need to break these bad habits before somebody gets hurt," Force said. "I don’t believe any of our residents would intentionally injure someone, but good intentions came too late for the owner of the small dog that was killed. The woman now is concerned for the safety of her young children. We all must do our part to ensure the future of our enjoyable environment. Safe responsible driving is a good start to the end."
