Police Say Barbershop Shooting Started with Discussion of Newtown Killings

Police found a loaded 9mm pistol in Davis' car.

Wentzville Police have released the probable cause statement from yesterday's shooting at All Cuts Barber Shop in Wentzville.

The suspect, Lester Davis, has a felony conviction in New Jersey and a history of altercations with neighbors that have resulted in the issuance of an order of protection against him.

The victim of yesterday's shooting reported to police that both he and Davis were part of group of people at the barber shop who were talking about the Newtown, Connecticut killings at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The victim told police that he told the group that the Connecticut shootings made him want to murder the killer.

Davis then said, "You want to murder me?" He then walked out to his car, the victim stated, and came back to the shop with a gun and began to shoot.

After three shots, Davis said, "I'll let you slide," and walked out.

Davis was eventually apprehended in the parking lot of the Wentzville Police Department, where the gun, a 9mm Smith & Wesson, was found in his car. The pistol had a 10-round magazine, with six rounds still in the magazine and one in the chamber.

Police said that Davis went to the station "because he knew they were going to be looking for him anyway."

Davis has been charged with 1st Degree Assault-Firearm, Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Use of a Weapon and is being held on $400,000 bond.
