Recorded Jail Conversation Shows Reason Murder Victim Was Shot

“I thought he had a gun,” Ron Rico Patton told his co-defendant when asked why he shot the victim. Patton pleaded guilty to the murder and was sentenced last week.

A recorded jailhouse conversation was part of the evidence that would have been used against a man who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last week.

Ron Rico Patton, 19, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and armed criminal action last week.

Patton pleaded guilty to the charges in a deal with St. Charles County prosecutors, who recommended a 24-year sentence in return. Patton would be eligible for parole in 20 years.

Police had recorded part of a three-way conversation between Patton, his co-defendant Harvion L. Cameron, of St. Louis, and Cameron’s girlfriend, who was talking to Patton on a cell phone. Cameron was in custody in St. Louis County jail at the time.

Harvey asked why Patton, also known as “Tweety,” shot the man. The girlfriend relayed the question to Patton, and repeated his answer back to Cameron: “I thought he had a gun.”

Patton later told police he panicked during the robbery and shot Brennan at 1300 Trails of Sunbrook in St. Charles.

A third co-defendant, Jeffery D. Lottie of Lake Saint Louis, told police Patton was in the vehicle with Brennan and shot him during the robbery attempt.

Lottie, 24, of the 300 block of Oakborough Drive in St. Charles County near Lake Saint Louis, was found guilty of the murder in September and received a life sentence.

Cameron, 23, 5000 block of Arlington Avenue in St. Louis, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the same incident and received a 30-year prison sentence. The other two men took part in the crime, a drug deal in which the three planned to rob the victim, police said.

All murders are by non law abiding citizens. Stricter gun laws will indeed help. A real background check, real fines and jail time for someone carrying a gun without licenses. They should have to carry insurance just like we have to on our cars. Unless you have something in your past and or your mentally unstable you should not have a problem with this.

Haha what planet did you fall off of! You REALLY think someone that commits a crime is going to register a gun & they are going to carry insurance on that gun they are illegally carrying? Wow, you are about the most stupidist person on this planet. Put a sign out in your yard letting the whole world know that only licensed gun owners are allowed to try to rob you. Betcha that deters a lot of crime around your house! I can't stop laughing at your statement, it is pathetic how completely blind people about lawbreakers. Gun laws that are being railroaded by the kool-aid creators for the drinkers such as you will help 1 group of people only- those that continue to buy guns on the black market for 1 sole purpose- to commit a heinous crime. You need to move out there to granola land and run thru the field of lillies with your hair in pig tails dodging the illegals shooting at you as they cross over the borders with their crack & heroin. Run up & hand them a nice bouquet of flowers & ask them to hand that illegal machine gun over to you & let's see how far that gets you.

Oh yeah, and when if they do happen to get arrested, let's make darn sure the police dog that sniffed out all the dope stashed in their body cavities doesn't break any skin while they are resisting arrest. Because we all know too well, a very nice lawyer in a suit will represent them & they will most assuredly throw that cop in jail to never see their family again because their canine assist used "brutality" in apprehending the illegal drug criminal. You think it hasn't happened? Think again! BTW:Don't ask us for help when they come to break in your home & all you have to defend yourself is a rubberband and a rock

Let me tell you something Diana. Your the idiot. I grew up hunting. I am so sure I can out shoot you. But I respect this weapon, I have also looked down the barrel a number of times by your so call law abiding citizens. I don't need your fking help. I can take care of my own. As a gun owner I am more then willing to have a real background check and pay insurance. Now listen up dumbass, nobody said they were going to take your weapon but you are somewhat a mentally disturbed person. Really. You would not help your fellow man? YOUR attitude is the PROBLEM. Your one person who should have a mental evaluation before being allowed to have a gun. Oh wow. Why don't you do a little traveling and help that little boy out of the underground bunker after mr unstable, (but yet can legally buy a gun, and has threatened people in the past,) get out without being MURDERED like the bus driver was. Lets just pass guns out like candy and we can all shoot each other? <Golf Clap>.
