Update: Possible Abduction Victim Found Safe

The sheriff's department believes the child was a runaway.

A missing child, whose disappearance was investigated as a possible abduction, was found safe in Warren County around 1:15 p.m. Friday.

Lt. Craig McGuire of the St. Charles County Sheriff's Department, said the girl was a runaway.

The girl told her mother she was going to see a friend but instead voluntarily went into a U-Haul van or truck that was being driven by a family friend.

"Based upon the mother's concern, we treated this as a possible abduction," McGuire said. "We threw a great deal of manpower at this—the sheriff's department, all the municipal police departments in St. Charles County, Warren County and the City of Warrenton."

The girl was found in Warren County. She was recovered safely without any apparent injuries.
