Wentzville Businesses Improve Compliance With Underage Drinking Laws

A grant program started in 2008 allows the Wentzville Police Department to run business checks twice a year.

If you read the , you probably noticed that police made four arrests for liquor law violations in under three hours last Tuesday, May 22.

The arrests were part of a compliance program that occurs twice a year and is funded by a $4,000 grant to help control under-age drinking, Lieutenant David Stewart told Patch.

In 2008, the first year of the compliance checks, only 50 percent of the businesses checked were in compliance.

"This year, out of 25 businesses, we made only 4 arrests," said Lt. Stewart. In four years, compliance has risen to 84%.

The grant for the compliance program is renewed annually.
