Wentzville Police Chief Debunks Recent Predator Stories

Media reports claimed a suspicious person was seen in Wentzville.

Chief Robert Noonan took the opportunity Wednesday to clear up rumors and misconceptions about a suspicious person soliciting children.

Alderwoman Cheryl Kross asked for an update at Wednesday's board of aldermen meeting after seeing reports of a man offering children candy.

KMOV first reported the suspicious black car seen in the Bear Creek subdivision.

Noonan said police are investigating the report of a man in a black car coming up to two girls in the Bear Creek subdivision and offering them candy.

"This happened over a week and a half ago," Noonan told the board. "The mother didn't report it at the time, but heard about another incident in O'Fallon and decided to call us."

Noonan said the police took all the information and began to investigate.

"A man in a black vehicle drove down the street and offered them candy," he said. "That was the entire report."

Two other incidents involving a suspicious person in a black car have been reported. Noonan said officers are investigating, but there haven't been many details.

"We can't stop everyone in a black car," he said.

Noonan urged residents to be vigilent and to report suspicious activity immediately - not weeks after the incident.

"Let us know as soon as it happens," Noonan said. "That is the best way to handle it — it is difficult to respond two weeks later."
