Teen Admits to Molesting Children at In-Home Daycare

Jacob Dolson, 17, who was charged with molesting children at his mother's in-home day care, could receive a sentence of 10 years to life in prison.

A Wentzville teenager pleaded guilty Tuesday to sodomizing children who were being cared for at his mother’s in-home daycare.

Jacob Dolson, 17, of the 600 block of Northview Court in Wentzville, pleaded guilty to seven counts of first-degree statutory sodomy, two counts of first-degree child molestation, and one count each of statutory rape and sexual misconduct.

Dolson originally was charged with molesting an 8-year-old girl, and during an investigation into the incident, prosecutors found additional incidents, said St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney Tim Lohmar.

Dolson is scheduled for sentencing July 11. Sentencing possibilities for the sodomy and rape charges range from 10 years to life in prison.

“We don’t get to recommend a sentence as we would in a plea bargain, but we are seeking a 50-year sentence,” Lohmar said.

That technically would be longer than a life sentence, which is defined as 30 years in Missouri. Dolson will be required to serve at least 85 percent of it before being eligible for parole.

Lohmar acknowledged that sentencing is a difficult topic in Dolson’s case because of his young age and the “horrific nature” of his crimes. One of the victims was related to Dolson, he said.

“Obviously, every sex case that involves a child is tough,” Lohmar said. “This one is particularly tough. I think it’s safe to say we’ve struggled because of the nature of this case – not only the offenses themselves, but where (Dolson) is at this stage of his life.”

“I wouldn’t want to be the judge in this case,” said Lohmar, who was a St. Charles County Associate Circuit Court judge until he was appointed prosecutor last fall.

Until the sentencing in July, Dolson is out on a $35,000 bond. He spent most of the past year in the St. Charles County jail.

“We would prefer that he would remain incarcerated during that time, but he is wearing a GPS monitor,” Lohmar said. “We’re relatively comfortable that he’s adequately supervised.”

Lohmar said the sentencing is set in July because the defense was allowed to submit a private pre-sentencing report that gives a lifetime summary of the defendant and his family and gives information on how the 17-year-old came to be a sexual predator.

The state Probation and Parole office will submit its own pre-sentencing report.
