Alderman Candidate Profile: Harry Slyman

The former mayor and Alderman incumbent for Lake Saint Louis talks about his goals for the city.

Harry Slyman is no stranger to Lake Saint Louis, or politics for that matter. He has been involved in public office for 13 years, serving as the mayor of Lake Saint Louis and of course President of the Board of Aldermen for the city.

Anybody remember those old Slyman Bro. Appliance commercials? Yes, that was him. He started the Hampton and Ballwin business with his brother in 1965. He was also CEO of Ad-Mark Enterprise Inc, another kitchen appliance provider in Ballwin.

Slyman served as Director of the Crestwood Bank until it was bought by Bank of America, and now, retired from all business ventures, he strives to continue making his mark on Lake Saint Louis.

When asked what he feels is the most important focus for Lake Saint Louis, Slyman said, "Growth is definitely the main issue. This is a small city that has grown but has seen some rough economical times."

Slyman pointed out the greatness of Lake Saint Louis, quoting the city's mantra, "It's like being on vacation every day." He said, "We have every ammenity available." He also pointed out Money magazine's choice of the city as the 9th best place to live in the nation.

"We are one of the fastest growing cities in the Midwest," he said.

Slyman wants to focus on that fact if he remains on the Board of Aldermen. He also wants to keep representing and fighting for the residents of Lake Saint Louis to the best of his ability.

His view of his political persona is one that "...has always represented the underdog." Slyman said, "My job is to continue to serve the people. A vote for me is a vote for them."

Slyman is running against Eric Oman this year in Ward One.
