Board Votes Against Mayor's Choice for Ward 3 Seat

The Wentzville Board of Aldermen failed to approve Michael Hays to fill the Ward 3 seat.

At a special meeting on Wednesday just before the regular 7 p.m. meeting, the board voted 3-2  against Michael Hays, Mayor Nick Guccuione's choice to fill the seat he vacated when he was elected mayor in April.

Aldermen Chris Gard and Forrest Gossett voted to approve the appointment; Aldermen Rick Stokes, Sonya Shryock and Cheryl Kross voted against the appointment.

Michael Hayes, who has been a Wentzville resident since 1989, had been the . The board asked for a procedure that would allow residents to apply for any vacant positions, although the power of appointment is the mayor's, and he is not required to choose from that pool of applicants.
