Board Votes to Demolish Home Used By Sts. Joachim and Ann

The Scotti Road home is currently vacant.

Despite the City Administrator's recommendation to make repairs, the Wentzville Board of Aldermen has voted to demolish a city-owned home on Scotti Lane.

The residence is currently vacant, but it has been used for the last several years by Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Services to house families in transition. A representative from the organization asked the city for help with maintenance issues.

Last month, the board asked for more information about the cost of repair versus the cost of demolition before making a decision.

At last night's board of aldermen meeting, City Administrator Mike McDowell recommended that the city make the repairs, which would be cheaper than demolition.

The aldermen disagreed.

Alderman Mike Hays mentioned that the cost of insurance should be factored in to the costs and that the city would need to demolish the home at some point in the future anyway for the future Dave Hoekel Parkway.

"The city shouldn’t be in the business of being a landlord," Alderman Rick Stokes said, and added that the house was a liability.

The board voted unanimously to proceed with demolition.
