City Sets Splash Station Fees for 2014

With the addition of Splash Station, the city expects a revenue of $478,000 from its pools next year.

Wentzville Parks Staff and the Parks Board recommended a schedule of fees for the city's new aquatic center, Splash Station, at last week's board of aldermen meeting.

Three types of memberships were established:

  • A Splash Station-only membership
  • A dual membership for both Splash Station and Progress Park Pool
  • A bundle that includes membership for both pools plus the Progress Park Recreation Center

The entire fee schedule is attached.

The fees were first established for non-residents, with a discount of 30 percent given to resident memberships purchased before the start of swim season. Once that early-bird discount is not available, residents will still receive a 25 percent discount over non-residents.

Park Staff estimate that memberships to its facilities (Progress Park Pool, Splash Station and the Rec Center) in 2014 should total about $162,320. Daily fees would add another $315,900, resulting in a total projected revenue of $478,220.

The board discussed if they wanted to go ahead and approve the fee structure or to get feedback from the public first.

"It's worth two weeks to get it out to the public," said Alderman Chris Gard.

"What are we going to do with the feedback?" Alderman Rick Stokes asked. "If we get too much negative feedback, what are we going to do? Reduce it? Make it free?"

Alderman Forrest Gossett agreed with Stokes. "(Parks Staff) came back with a proposal that's easy to understand. They contacted other parks, they worked like the dickens."

The board voted four to two to approve the fee schedule.
