Dardenne Prairie Aldermen Discuss Updates On City Park, Table Property Tax Levy

The city park is nearly complete. Aldermen are waiting on property tax information to discuss the property tax levy.

Before Wednesday’s board of aldermen meeting, Mayor Pam Fogarty said the city park should be finished by the grand opening on September 17th, Prairie Day.

The park features two pavilions, a concession building, two playgrounds, and a sprinkler area. Fogarty said water used for the sprinkler area will be filtered into a recycling system so the gray water can be used on the grass.

While most of the park has been completed, playground surface is still unfinished and some park lighting still needs to be put in place.

A few areas on the south side of the park still need sod and the fountains around the gazebo are not working yet.

Fogarty said she is confident the public will be able to use the park by Prairie Day, even if the remaining details are not complete. “As you can see there is really not that much more to do, but I think we can get it done,” Fogarty said.

The city has already heard requests from residents to rent the pavilions in the park. City staff will compare pricing and best practices for renting similar pavilions in neighboring cities.

The staff will then present that information to the board and the aldermen will vote on what arrangement is best for the new pavilions.

Property Tax Levy Discussion Tabled

The board was supposed to talk about the property tax levy at Wednesday night’s work session, but tabled the discussion until further notice.

City Clerk Kim Clark said the county has not yet provided Dardenne Prairie with the property tax information.

Clark said the city does not intend to increase property tax rates. “Our rate will be the same as it has been for several years,” Clark said. “We are not going to increase that.”

Alderman Kolbe was excused from the meeting.
