Lake Saint Louis Sales Tax Ballot Issue Could Cost City as Much as $50K

At Monday's night's meeting of the Lake Saint Louis Board of Aldermen, the board plans another discussion of a proposed capital improvement sales tax at their 5:30 p.m. work session.

The ordinance to place the issue on the August ballot will receive a first reading at the 7 p.m. regular meeting.

Patch talked to St. Charles County Election Authority Director Rich Chrismer about the potential cost of the election to the city. Chrismer said that if Lake Saint Louis is the only city in St. Charles County with an election, it could cost the city as much as $50,000.

"We won't know for sure until May 28—the last day to certify," Chrismer said. "Having more cities involved in the election drops the proportion that each city pays."

Chrismer said that more taxing districts could jump into the election knowing that another city is already involved, because they would be sharing the cost.
