Letter to the Editor: Resident Asks for Full Representation on Board

Ralph Sidebottom's appointment of Gary Torlina to the vacant Ward 1 seat was tabled last week at the Lake Saint Louis Board of Aldermen meeting.

(Wentzville Patch received the following letter to the editor after last week's Lake Saint Louis Board of Aldermen meeting. -TD)

This evening at the Special Board of Alderman Meeting, Mayor Ralph Sidebottom selected the appointment of Gary Torlina to fill the Ward One vacancy.

The Board of Alderman objected to Mayor Ralph Sidebottom's appointment of Gary Torlina  as Ward One Alderman.

The Board tabled (postponed) the appointment.  Alderman Tony Zito and Rick Morris voted against tabling (postponing) the appointment.

As a resident of Ward One, I want full representation of Ward One on the Board of Alderman.  The tabling (postponing) the appointment of Gary Torlina does not provide Ward One with second Alderman. At the beginning of the Special Board of Alderman Meeting, I addressed the Board of Alderman about Gary Torlina's resume of community involvement and leadership.

"I have been a resident of Lake Saint Louis for almost twenty years and I know that Gary Torlina is a person that exemplifies the values of community involvement and leadership.  Gary began his Lake Saint Louis community involvement as a member of the Community Association’s Lakes and Parks Committee. He was elected two times to the Community Association Board of Directors. Gary served as Board Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President.  Gary agreed and was elected board president when the former Mayor Mike Potter first ran for Mayor of Lake Saint Louis.  Gary served as Board President during the time of the new clubhouse construction.

Gary is currently a member of the Thursday Night Cookout Group, Saturday Morning Men’s Golf League and the Pontooneers.  As a member of the Lake Saint Louis Pontooneers, he has served as Commodore, Vice Commodore, Secretary and Treasurer. Former Mayor Mike Potter appointed Gary to the Planning and Zoning Commission.  Gary is currently serving his third term with approximately ten years experience as a member of Zoning and Zoning Commission.  He is currently serving as the Vice Chairman and chairs the Planning and Zoning meetings in the absence of the Chairman.Gary Torlina has proven leadership experience with both the Lake Saint Louis Community Association and the City of Lake Saint Louis government.  He with served with former Mayor Mike Potter on the Lake Saint Louis Community Association Board of Directors.  Larry was appointed to the City of Lake Saint Louis Planning and Zoning Commission by former Mayor Mike Potter and is serving his third term as a Planning and Zoning Commission member.   Both Mayor Ralph Sidebottom and former Mayor Mike Potter know that Gary has the integrity, the knowledge and leadership ability to serve the City of Lake Saint Louis. Again, Gary Torlina is a person that exemplifies the values of community involvement and leadership."
