Municipal, School Board Filings End Today

The deadline for filing for city and school board positions is 5 p.m. today.

Filing for both municipal office and seats on the Wentzville R-IV School Board closes at 5 p.m. today. Candidates can file at Wentzville or the Wentzville R-IV .

Municipal Election

Two incumbents and one challenger have filed to run for the Wentzville Board of Aldermen.

According to City Clerk Vitula Skillman, the following candidates have filed for office.

Incumbent Municipal Judge Michael E. Carter also filed to retain his seat. 

The city will hold its municipal election Tuesday, April 5, 2011. One seat in each of the city's three wards is up for reelection. Aldermen serve two-year terms.

Filing for office opened Dec. 14 and will remain open until Tuesday, Jan. 18.  is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. 

Qualifications for Aldermen

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Must be an inhabitant and resident of the city for one year preceding the election and a resident of the ward where he/she hopes to serve at the time of filing
  • Must be a qualified city voter.

Qualifications for Judge

  • Must be between the ages of 21 and 75
  • Must be a licensed attorney qualified to practice law within the state of Missouri
  • Must be a resident of  at the time of his/her election.

All candidates for any municipal office shall not be in arrears for unpaid city taxes. There is a $25 filing fee for city office.

School Board Election

Four candidates have filed for seats on the Wentzville R-IV School Board. They include:

  • Terry Ratcliff, incumbent — current board vice president
  • Lelain Wayne Self, challenger
  • Michael Cecil, incumbent — current board president
  •  Heather Reiter, challenger

The school board has three seats up for grabs on the April 5 ballot. 

The seats currently held by Cecil, Ratcliff and Director David Ness are up for election in April.

Interested candidates can file to appear on the ballot by going to the  until 5 p.m. 

School Board Candidates

To appear on the ballot for Wentzville School Board, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • At least 24 years of age;
  • A United States citizen;
  • Resident and taxpayer of the Wentzville R-IV School District;
  • Never convicted of a felony or found guilty of election law violations; and 
  • A resident of the state of Missouri for a minimum of one year preceding the election.
