Politicians From Wisconsin To New Hampshire Talking About Akin's 'Legitimate Rape' Comment

With a Tuesday deadline for U.S. Rep. Todd Akin to step aside from the U.S. Senate race without getting courts involved, political leaders in Patch communities around the country are speaking out.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, a Republican, added his voice to the 'should he stay or should he go' debate playing out nationally in the wake of Missouri U.S. Senate candidate .

, Walker on Tuesday suggested that what's at stake in November is bigger than Missouri. "I want the debate to be about the future, not about issues like that where I think (Akin) made a horribly ignorant statement. He should get out," Walker said.

Akin, a U.S. Represenative from Wildwood, has apologized for the comment and today released an ad to that effect. Still national funding sources have indicated they will not assist an Akin campaign moving forward and national party figures have urged him to quit the race.

reported Tuesday that a challenger in a U.S. House race there urged her incumbent opponent to call for Akin to leave.

Missouri candidates have until 5 p.m. Tuesday to step down as a party's nominee in November without getting courts involved.

Dear Karla. I'm so sorry for your family's loss. I know when we went through something similar withRead More our cat, who had been with my wife for 19 years, it was like we'd been hit by a truck. I didn't expect to be affected as much as I was. Sorry this isn't a doggie memory...we're cat people, but the feeling is the same.

Thanks, Kurt - I really appreciate your post. Thankfully, I still have 3 cats and another dog atRead More home to help ease the pain. I agree with what what you said about being hit by a truck. I, too, didn't expect to be affected as much as I was - especially since I knew she was "elderly" for a dog. :)
