R-IV School Board: Michael Cecil

Incumbent board president Cecil is running for re-election.

Michael Cecil has spent his life as an educator. He brings that experience to his position as president of the School board.

Cecil, 61, said he has learned much during his term on the board and he wants to continue to work for the voters of the district.

"I've learned an incredible amount about the day-to-day challenges of managing a successful school district," he said. "I feel I've contributed to improving the quality of the education we provide for our children and the community."

While he has been president of the board, the district has improved programs immensely, Cecil said. Programing for the general student body and more programs for kids who are struggling in the district have improved. He still loves being president of the board and doesn't want to lose momentum.

"I still want to give back to the community," he said.

Cecil is retired after a career in the and school districts. He has a degree in English literature and a masters degree in Education in Social Sciences. His emphasis was middle school.

He still substitute teaches in the district.

Cecil has lived in the district for 20 years and his two stepchildren graduated from Wentzville schools.

Issues Facing School Board

"Clearly we are amazingly overcrowded," he said. "We're bursting at the seams." If we don't expand we are looking at 30 to 40 trailers and teachers on carts."

Cecil supports the tax levy that is on the April 5 ballot.

Cecil also wants to improve communication between teachers, parents, administration and the board. He says one of the issues he will be working on is "ways to improve communication."

Role of School Board

Cecil said the board's responsibility is to see and maintain policies while the administration develops procedure that is functional according to policy. He plans on seeing that these branches work together.
