Sterman to Serve as New Lake Saint Louis Assistant City Administrator

The City of Lake Saint Louis has combined the jobs of human resources coordinator and assistant to the city administrator into one position—assistant city administrator. Eric Sterman will fill that role.

Eric Sterman has his work cut out for him. Actually the new Lake Saint Louis assistant city administrator has two jobs. Last month the city of Lake Saint Louis saved the taxpayers some money and combined the jobs of human resources coordinator and assistant to the city administrator into one position—assistant city administrator.

Bryan Richison, who previously served as the assistant to the city administrator, took an administration job in Kansas City, MO. Former Human Resources Director, Edie Matejka, left the city for family reasons.

Lake Saint Louis City Administrator Paul Markworth said Sterman will take on all of the human resources responsibilities, including health benefits and personnel law as well as traditional administration duties such as economic development and city contracts.

Markworth said Sterman is well prepared for the job. “Eric is a very bright and talented individual,” he said. “I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Sterman will begin his new role by initiating an open rapport with and marketing the community to existing businesses. “Economic development is more than trying to bring in new business,” Markworth said. “You have to work with property owners, utility providers and the county to get roads built. There is more to it than contacting a business in Illinois and seeing if they want to move to Missouri.”

Markworth said Sterman will start by supporting existing businesses and finding out what they think the city might be doing right and what it can do better.

Sterman comes to the city of Lake Saint Louis from Ellisville, MO where he was the assistant city manager for four years. Prior to that, he worked for the city of Clayton, MO as a management analyst in the city manager’s office.

Sterman has a business degree as well as a master’s degree in public administration. He grew up in the St. Louis area and has worked in both the private and public sectors of the local community.

“There have been a lot of exciting projects in the city in the last few years,” Sterman said. “I would like to keep that momentum going and help the city continue to prosper. Part of the job is to help strengthen ties between businesses and the city. I want to be a resource for them."

Sterman welcomes business owners to call him with any concerns they may have at 636-625-7933.
