The Road to Nowhere May Finally Go Somewhere

The road is there and even has a name—The East Pitman Loop. But when will it finally open?

If you've ever tried to get from Highway A to Pitman Road, you know it's almost impossible.

You either have to turn around and go back east on Interstate 70 to the Lake Saint Louis Boulevard exit, or you have to drive all the way into Wentzville and take Luetkenhaus Boulevard south to Pitman.

The East Pitman Loop Road was supposed to change all that, plus give the county better access to the highway department facility, which is just a hop, skip and a jump west on East Pitman.

The St. Charles County Highway Department pretty much finished up the so-called jug-handle road last November. One thing is left.

Connecting it to Highway A.

Apparently, the county didn't have permission from the state to make that connection, so the road sits pristine and unused, dead-ending at the Highway A guardrail. Must have been an oversight.

The issue was supposed to go before a MoDOT commission sometime in June, but the agenda for the June 4 meeting doesn't seem to have it listed.

Perhaps it was just another oversight. And perhaps the road to nowhere will finally go somewhere. Soon.
