Utility Relocation Marks Start of Freymuth Road Work

The Freymuth Road Improvement Plan and the Freymuth Road Sidewalk Project will start construction in early 2013.

The relocation of utilities along Freymuth Road marks the start of Lake Saint Louis' much-anticipated and long-awaited Freymuth improvement projects.

The city of Lake Saint Louis has directed Public Water Supply District #2, Cuvier River Electric Cooperative and CenturyLink notice to begin the relocation of utility lines in preparation for the road work. In a press release, the city said that relocations were expected to be completed in 90 days.

No road closures are scheduled due to the relocations, but temporary reductions in lane widths or flagger control of lane usage may be necessary, and drivers should exercise caution in that area and to watch for construction workers and equipment.

Both projects—the Road Improvement Plan and the Sidewalk Plan—will be bid in December, city staffers said, and construction should begin early in 2013.

In a Feb. 2011 interview, Director of Public Works Derek Koestel told Patch that the road was in poor condition and was too narrow. "With cars parking on it and two lanes of traffic, we often see people having to pull into the oncoming lane to go around parked cars,” Koestel said.

Adding to the road's issues are the open ditches on both sides of the road, which is a safety issue for pedestrians as well as motorists, Koestel said. At the time of that interview, he estimated the construction costs at just short of $3 million.

It will be good to see this project underway, but I'll miss my shortcut to city hall. The road won't close, but I avoid construction areas whenever I can.

Dear Karla. I'm so sorry for your family's loss. I know when we went through something similar withRead More our cat, who had been with my wife for 19 years, it was like we'd been hit by a truck. I didn't expect to be affected as much as I was. Sorry this isn't a doggie memory...we're cat people, but the feeling is the same.

Thanks, Kurt - I really appreciate your post. Thankfully, I still have 3 cats and another dog atRead More home to help ease the pain. I agree with what what you said about being hit by a truck. I, too, didn't expect to be affected as much as I was - especially since I knew she was "elderly" for a dog. :)
