The board voted at its March 13 meeting to go forward with the de-annexation, but it was not a unanimous decision. Alderman Rick Stokes and Alderman Mike Hays each voted no; and with Alderman Forrest Gossett's absence, yes votes from Alderman Cheryl Kross, Alderman Sonya Shryock and Alderman Chris Gard decided the issue.

Stokes mentioned the board's desire to move forward with a campaign to annex "doughnut holes" of unincorporated property into the City of Wentzville, and said that this would be a precedent sending the wrong message.

Gard expressed the same concern, though he wound up voting in favor of the bill.
