Wentzville Board to Hold Sunshine Law Workshop June 6

Tom Durkin from the Missouri Attorney General's Office will be conducting the presentation.

The will be devoting part of their Wednesday workshop session to a presentation about Missouri Sunshine Law.

The workshop will be held in the council room at city hall starting at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The Missouri Sunshine Law is a commitment to openness in government and states that "meetings, records, votes, actions, and deliberations of public governmental bodies be open to the public unless otherwise provided by law."

A press release from the Attorney General's office states that the presentation will cover questions such as:

  • Who does the Sunshine Law apply to?
  • What is a public meeting?
  • What is a public record?
  • What procedures must be followed to close meetings and records?
  • What fees may be charged for public records?

After the presentation, the board will be discussing an ethics policy and highway safety issues.
