Wentzville Increases 2012 Sewer Rates

User fees must cover the cost of service and debt.

The Wednesday approved a sewer rate hike for 2012. The change will increase the volumetric rate from $3.15 to $3.65.

The rate increase is necessary, according to Interim City Administrator Dennis Walsh, in order to cover operating costs and debt service for the city's wastewater treatment plant.

Water and sewer services are covered by separate funds in the city budget and are considered enterprise funds, which means the user fees must cover the expense of providing the service.
