Westbound Blanchette Bridge To Close in Late Fall

Missouri Department of Transportation released the anticipated schedule for the repair of the westbound span of the bridge.

The closure of the westbound span of the Blanchette Bridge in St. Charles is expected to start in late fall 2012, according to a press release from the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Walsh Construction Company, who is completing the $63 million rehabilitation of the bridge, will shift lanes to the eastbound bridge no earlier than Nov. 1.

Three lanes of eastbound Interstate 70 and three lanes of westbound Interstate 70 would use the eastbound bridge, which would be divided with a concrete barrier. Each lane will be 11 feet wide with no shoulders. The speed limit will be 45 miles per hour.

The westbound span of the bridge is expected to be closed for less than a year. Weather, and the schedule for manufacturing steel for the truss and approach span, would determine the exact timing. Construction work to prepare for the closure will start in the summer during off peak hours.

MoDOT is encouraging drivers to start thinking about alternative routes, including Routes 370 and 364.
