3M Donates to Wentzville Schools

Lakeview students now have an abundance of Post-It notes.

Students at Lakeview Elementary school have plenty of Post-it Notes thanks to the school’s Literacy Coach, Carrie Luedde.

Luedde wrote to 3M, the company that manufactures Post-it Notes to tell them about how her young readers were utilizing their product during reading workshops. The company then sent over 64,000 Post-it Notes to Luedde for Lakeview students.

In addition, 3M representatives invited her to be their Missouri consultant and report back to them about how students were utilizing the Notes so they could post the ideas on their company website.

Luedde's students use the Post-it Notes while reading to flag their thinking on a particular page. This makes it easier for the student to go back and formulate a response to what they have read.

Luedde has now developed a “Writing is Rewarding” program at Lakeview where teachers are encouraged to celebrate good writing in response to reading by submitting writers’ names into a drawing for the Post-it Notes.

“I am happy to increase the love of writing in any way that I can,” said Luedde.  “Reading and writing are passions of mine and I strive for that passion to be contagious. That was my inspiration behind writing the company.”
