Fort Zumwalt West claimed its third straight win with a 49-7 beatdown on homecoming Friday at Francis Howell Central last week.

The Jaguars, who remain the No. 6-ranked team in the statewide Class 6 football poll, looked every bit like one of the best teams in the state by jumping on Howell Central right from the outset, and not letting up until the game was firmly in hand late in the third quarter.

Senior quarterback Drew Hare, a 6-foot-2, 190-pounder, who’s headed to Northern Illinois University next year, had another brilliant game for the Jags, completing 18-of-20 passes for 293 yards and four touchdowns.

Fellow senior Ray Harris caught two of those touchdown passes and rushed for two others, to bring his league-leading total to 15 on the season, while wide receiver Kyle Echols caught his sixth and seventh touchdown passes of the season.

Defensively, the Jags are led by the trio of defensive end Tanner Day, linebacker Demetrius Bernard, and defensive back Brett Uhlemeyer.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Hoekel Stadium, and fans can tune in to Patch late Friday night and early Saturday morning for full coverage of the GAC South showdown between Timberland and Fort Zumwalt West.
