Wentzville Middle Schools Win Five Trophies at Festival

The "Loud and Proud" choirs competed at Six Flags on May 21.

The Wentzville Middle School "Loud and Proud" choirs, consisting of 287 students under the direction of Christina Wilson Smith, brought home five trophies from a recent music festival.

The 2011 Six Flags St. Louis Music Festival on Sat,, May 21 drew nearly 50 high school, middle school and elementary school bands and choirs to the theme park to  compete in a number of categories.

The Wentzville Middle School group was proud to bring home the following trophies:

  • The Seventh and Eighth Grade Choir received third place
  • Sixth Grade Choir received second place
  • Women’s Choir (females in sixth, seventh and eighth grades) received second place
  • Men’s Choir (males in sixth, seventh and eighth grade) brought home a first place trophy

In addition, each of the choirs received a superior rating, which is the highest attainable rating.

Wentzville Middle School students were also the recipients of the "Esprit De Corps" trophy,which is given to the group that shows team work, exemplary behavior at the competition, and outstanding character and sportsmanship towards the other ensembles, from the time that the students step off the bus until the time they leave Six Flags.

“It was so awesome to see 280 kids in their LOUD and PROUD shirts chanting ‘Loud and proud!’ The pride on their faces was priceless,” said Smith. “The kids are so excited and can't wait for next year.”

The groups’ accompanist on the piano, eighth grader Emily Henley, was also awarded “Outstanding Student Accompanist” for her role in the performances.
