Boys Basketball: Holt Advances to District Finals, Timberland Falls Short

Indians advance to district championship game against Troy Buchanan.

The Holt High School boys basketball team used a 21-6 first quarter edge to help vault them into the Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 5, District 6 finals Wednesday with a 63-59 win over Francis Howell.

The Indians won behind a stellar performance from sophomore guard Justin Davis, who shot 7-for-11 from the field for 17 points. Davis connected on 3-of-4 3-pointers, swiped five steals and dished five assists in the win. 

Brett Smith also chipped in with 15 points while Phillip Love scored 13 points and Mike Carter scored 11 points.

Holt (12-13) advances to play top-seeded Troy Buchanan (20-6), which defeated Timberland High School just hours before Holt's win, in the district finals.

Troy handidly ousted Timberland (7-17) from the playoffs with a 51-34 win behind 22 points from Derek Deters.

Timberland's Adam Ingle scored 15 points in the losing effort. 

The district championship game will be played Friday at 7 p.m. at Timberland.
