Boys Basketball: Timberland Wins Playoff Opener in 2OT Thriller Over Zumwalt West

Timberland advances to play Troy Buchanan on Wednesday in district semifinals.

Four periods couldn't decide it. Neither could five. 

The Timberland High School boys basketball team fought tooth and nail with Fort Zumwalt West Monday evening through four quarters and two overtimes. Ultimately, the Timberwolves outlasted the Jaguars in an exciting 64-60 double-overtime win that opened the Class 5, District 6 Missouri State High School Activities Association playoffs

Four Timberland players scored in the double digits, including Andrew Jehle, who turned in a 15 point performance to help lead the Timberwolves (7-17) on to the second round of the district tournament against Troy Buchanan, which had a first-round bye.

Zumwalt West's Kory Tennant led all shooters in scoring with 24 points. But the Jaguars (10-16) shot themselves in the foot by missing more than half of their free-throws.

Timberland entered the contest as the underdog, although both teams feature losing records this season.

The Timberwolves will play top-seeded Troy Buchanan (19-6) Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Timberland High School.

Timberland's Jack James (12 points), Adam Ingle (11 points) and Bobby Marco (11 points) also contributed to the win.

Holt to open playoffs against Francis Howell

The Holt High School boys basketball team (11-13), meanwhile, opens its playoff slate with a matchup against Francis Howell (9-16).

Tipoff is set for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Timberland High School.

Timberland girls win playoff opener

The Timberland girls basketball team defeated Francis Howell 56-43 in the Class 5, District 6 tournament on Monday.

The Timberwolves advance to play Fort Zumwalt West today at 5:30 p.m.
