Holt Clinches Playoff Spot With Win Over Rival Timberland

Cross town rivals battle to the end, but Holt ultimately prevails.

The Friday night football game between and was up for grabs until the final minute of the fourth quarter.

Holt held on for a 31-24 win and earned another home game—a playoff game this coming Wednesday at 7 p.m. The win gave the Indians a second place finish in Class 5, Distirct 4 play, putting them in the postseason. 

The first quarter was dominated by the Holt defense who shut out Timberland while scoring an interception for a touchdown by Tre Vaughn and setting up a field goal for a 10-0 lead.

The second quarter opened with Timberland corneback Ben Steinkamp intercepting a pass and taking it to paydirt to close the lead to 10-7. On their next possesion Holt fumbled at their 17 and gave up a 28-yard field goal which evened the score at 10 all.

Holt countered with an 85-yard touchdown pass to Tray Mitchell late in the quarter and Holt regained the lead 17-10.

The third quarter started with a squib kick by Timberland but Holt found the handle and downed the ball at the 25-yard line. Timberland recovered a fumble at the 48-yard line and on the next play tied the game on a 48-yard touchdown pass to Travis Arntd.

Later in the third Holt lost a punt at their own 12-yard line and Timberland connected with Ben Steinkamp for a 12-yard TD reception on the very next play.

Trailing for the first time during the game Holt dug in, played good defense and held Timberland scorless for the rest of the game.

The Holt Indians tied the game 24-24 in the fourth quarter and scored the winning touchdown on a quarterback keeper from the one with 2:34 left to play.

Timberland drove to the Holt 35-yard line before running out of time and the Holt Indians held on for the win against the Timberland Wolves.
