Holt Notebook: Daniels Earns All-State Honors

Holt basketball senior Dantiel Daniels has made the all-state first team. Plus, Holt baseball and soccer updates.

basketball senior standout Dantiel Daniels has earned yet another honor, but this one may stand above all of his other individual achievements. Daniels made the 10-player Class 5 all-state first team, as voted on by the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association earlier this week.

Daniels, who averaged 21.4 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.9 blocked shots per game this past season, led the Indians to an 18-5 season and the Gateway Athletic Conference South Division title. Daniels, now a two-time all-state selection, has signed to play at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale this fall.

The Holt baseball team improved its season mark to 4-3 after rallying past St. Dominic on Thursday, 16-9. The Indians were down 5-0 after two innings.

Senior pitcher Nolan Fisher shook off a rough start to throw 4 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out five. Fisher also hit a triple and a home run, and is batting .471 this season with a team-high 12 RBI.

Junior catcher Nate Geissman hit a three-run double and had three hits and five RBI. He is batting .500 with seven RBI this season. Holt coach Joel Adam has seen his Indians score 14 or more runs three times already this season. Conner Hales has been the team’s primary pitcher, with 11 innings and 13 strikeouts. Hales is also 12-for-29 at the plate with 14 runs scored.

After playing at Duchesne on Friday night, Holt will host Fort Zumwalt East (4-3) on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.

The Holt girls soccer team lost, 2-1, on Thursday to Duchesne to fall to 2-4. The day before, the Indians lost, 4-2, to improved Orchard Farm (5-0).

Holt defeated Fort Zumwalt South on Tuesday, 1-0, as junior goalkeeper Amber Boehme notched the shutout. Their next game is Monday at Francis Howell at 6:45 p.m. Indians coach Bobby Nicholson led Holt to a 6-13-1 record in 2010.
