M-I-Z! S-E-C! Tigers Heading East: What Do You Think?

The University of Missouri has been unanimously accepted into the Southeastern Conference, starting in July 2012.

After stops and starts, posturing and negotiating, and even a premature announcement accidentally posted on the conference's website two weeks ago, word finally came Sunday morning: The Southeastern Conference has officially accepted the University of Missouri's application for membership.

The University, which was a founding member of the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association, Big 6, later the Big 8 and most recently the Big 12, will join the SEC next summer.

The school has been lobbied hard by boosters in the Kansas City area who feared that a defection, and the presumed loss of the MU-KU rivalry would have serious implications for the city. Curators have charged school officials with coming up with basketball and football matchups to keep a foothold there.

For St. Louis area fans, the move will mean the possibility that some local hoops standouts, like former standout Brad Beal, now about to start his freshman year at the University of Florida, or Auburn recruit Jordon Granger, the McCluer North senior, could find themselves playing at Mizzou Arena next season.
