Signing Day Comes and Goes for Mizzou

Locally, not many kids are heading to Columbia. Will that be the case next year, too?

Wednesday, February 2 was signing day for student athletes that are planning to play NCAA football. Meaning, that is, that it was the first day that the kids could sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI) declaring their intention to attend and play football at a specific school.

If you’re unsure about what exactly an NLI is, click here http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/nli/nli .

OK, are you back? Great.

For the Missouri Tigers, it was a pretty good day overall. A total of 17 kids committed to go to Columbia to play football, and on Wednesday morning rivals.com had the class rated as 28th-best with regard to average stars of its signees.

Mizzou head coach Gary Pinkel is pleased with the way things are going in Tiger Nation.

“This is always an exciting day for our program and for these newest members of our family at Mizzou,” Pinkel said. “We feel very good that this group addresses our biggest needs on the football field, but just as importantly, they are high-quality young men who will represent our program and this University the right way.”

Four of the kids that signed with the Tigers are from Missouri – Quarterback Corbin Berkstresser from Lee’s Summit High School in Kansas City, Brandon Hannah from Chaminade High School in Creve Couer, who is officially listed as “athlete” due to his ability to play multiple spots, wide receiver Wesley Leftwich of Hickman High School in Columbia, and defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson of Gateway Tech in St. Louis, who has been enrolled in a junior college.

So, that’s this year. But what about next year and the year after that? What might happen locally with regard to Tigers Football?

Here at home, which Holt and Timberland athletes do you see signing on to play at Mizzou, at any other Division I schools or any school at all for that matter? One year from now, who will be the center off attention? Who will be signing?

We want to know what you think! Who do YOU think we should be watching? Who do YOU think we should feature?
