Sports Report: Volleyball Playoffs Begin As Football Regular Season Ends

The week of Oct. 24 is jam packed with must-see games all around St. Charles County.

Fall sports are just about done with this whole regular season nonsense.

Football takes the field for Week 10 this Friday, the last week before the State playoffs. Boys soccer is playing the last week of regular season games before Districts begin next week.

And then we have volleyball.

Volleyball

Not to be left out in the postseason fun, the volleyball teams across St. Charles County will hit the courts this week for the beginning of District play.

The first round of the District tournament begins today, Monday, Oct. 24.

The Class 4, District 8 Tournament features a bevy of St. Charles County teams. Francis Howell, , , , , Francis Howell Central and will all battle for one playoff spot. The Vikings at Francis Howell have a first-round, but will face the winner of the Fort Zumwalt East/Fort Zumwalt West tilt. 

Play starts today at 6 p.m. The championship of the tournament will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26. All games will be played at Zumwalt South.

St. Charles will have its eyes on the Class 3, District 7 Tournament. ,  and will battle Winfield, Warrenton, Wright City and Bowling Green for a playoff spot. Duchesne is the top seed in tourney. 

The championship of the Class 3, District 7 tourney will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25. 

Wentzville rivals and will face off in the Class 4, District 9 Tournament. Troy, Hickman, Rock Bridge and Hannibal round out the District. The first round starts today at 5 p.m. when Troy takes on Timberland. The championship will take place at 8 p.m. tomorrow. All games will take place at Troy.

Football

The playoff picture is much clearer after nine weeks of play, but there are still some big games coming up in Week 10.

 vs. 

  • 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28, at Fort Zumwalt North
  • Rivals South and North will take the field for the regular season finale. The game would be big on its own, but add in the playoff factor, and the game takes on huge implications. South and North are both on the outside looking in of the Class 5, District 4 playoffs, but South can get in with a win and some help from Timberland. Speaking of Timberland. 

 vs. 

  • 7 p.m. , Friday, Oct. 28, at Timberland
  • Timberland is out of the playoff race, but has a chance to play spoiler against rival Holt. If Holt wins, the Indians are in the playoffs. If Timberland wins, Holt will need some help to get in. 

 vs. Warrenton

  • 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Warrenton
  • The St. Charles West Warriors need a win against Warrenton Warriors. Warrenton is 1-8 and 0-2 in the playoffs. St. Charles West is 8-1 and 1-1 in the Class 4, District 8 tournament. A win for St. Charles West would help put them in the playoffs.

St. Francis Borgia vs. 

  • 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Dominic
  • Borgia is 2-0 in the District and looking for a District title. St. Dominic will try to stop that from happening. The Crusaders are 1-1 in the District and need a win to keep playoff hopes alive. 

 vs. Jennings

  • 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Charles
  • The St. Charles Pirates are just 1-7 on the season, but are 1-1 in Class 4, District 7 play. A win for the Pirates would help put them into the playoff conversation. 

 vs. Westminster

  • 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28, at Westminster
  • Duchesne is coming off a 36-7 loss to Jennings. Still, the Pioneers are 1-1 in Class 4, District 7. Two wins in the District would help in the playoff race.
