Timberland Wrestler Richter Claims State Title

Timberland's Devan Richter wins state title as just a sophomore.

Timberland High School wrestler Devan Richter, who has only lost three times this season, capped off an outstanding season Saturday when he won the Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 4 state championship. 

Richter, a sophomore, pinned Park Hill's William Erneste in 1 minute, 44 seconds to secure the title.

Richter has been considered the future of the Wolves' wrestling program since he tok first lace in the Westminister tournament last season and had a solid showing at the Toshiba tournament as a freshman.

Richter also defeated Holt High School's Lawton Benna in the semifinals; Lee's Summit's Cartland Allen in the quarterfinals and CBC's Alexander Fisher in the first round.

Overall, Timberland finished in fifth place in Class 4 with 75.5 points.

Jake Hawks won third place in the 170 pound class by defeating Dominic Vitale of Fox.
