Vote Now: Choose the Top Softball Player in St. Charles County

Help decide which St. Charles County softball player has gotten off to the best start in 2012.

Football may be king, but it's far from the only sport being played this fall.

After looking at football for the last two weeks in the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week fan poll, we're looking at a different sport.

This week we turn our attention to the softball field. Tell us in the poll below: Which St. Charles County softball player has had the best start to the 2012 season?

Here are the nominees:

Nikki Taylor—: Nikki Taylor has been hitting just about everything this season for the Fort Zumwalt East Lions. Taylor leads the Lions in several offensive categories like batting average (.476), homers (three), RBIs (11) and steals (two). She has 10 hits on the year, six for extra bases—two doubles, a triple and three home runs. Taylor's slugging percentage of 1.095 is easily the best on the team.

Abagail Griffin—:
Abagail Griffin has been a sparkplug for the Howell North Knights. Griffin leads the Knights with a .607 batting average after going 17-for-28 to start the year. She has 16 singles and one triple and has scored a team-high 10 runs. She is also a perfect 10-for-10 stealing bases.

Hanna Porter—:
Hanna Porter is crushing the softball this season for Zumwalt West. In 22 at-bats, Porter has a staggering 14 hits (.636 average). Perhaps most impressive, is that eight of the 14 hits have gone for extra bases. Porter leads the Jaguars with four triples and has added three doubles and a homer on the season. She's also driven in 14 and scored a team-high 10 runs.

Mykaela ArellanesMykaela Arellanes may not be a power hitter, but she does have speed. Arellanes leads the Holt Indians with 23 hits—all singles—in 37 at-bats for a .622 batting average. Once on base, Arellanes has swiped 18 bags without being caught once. She also has a team-high 18 runs scored for the Indians.

Remember: It's all for fun. This is simply a fan's choice award.

Want to write in your own candidate? Go ahead! But be sure to explain your pick in the comments and be sure to vote by 12 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14. Again, the poll closes at noon on Friday.
