Wentzville's Masters Part of Busch Baseball Showcase

Timberland shortstop David Masters is one of 50 senior baseball players playing in the High School Baseball Showcase.

Fifty of the top senior baseball players in the metropolitan area will get a chance of a lifetime on Monday as they will get to compete at Busch Stadium during the Second Annual PNC Bank High School Baseball Showcase.

The event, which will pit the Missouri All Stars against the Illinois All Stars, will be played at 1:15 p.m. The game will be preceded by a home-run hitting contest and a skills competition at 10 a.m.

Former Cardinals players Mike Matheny and John Mabry will once again manage the teams.

"Last year's event was a huge success and I'm excited to bring the High School Showcase back to Busch Stadium for the second year," said Matheny, whose son Tate was a key member of the Class 3 state champion Westminster Christian Academy team (Tate was a junior and thus not eligible to play in this year's game).

"When I was in high school it was a dream of mine to be able to play the game I loved in a big stadium in front of my family and friends. We can make the dream come true for these 50 players."

The caliber of this year's team seems to be an upgrade from last year as five players were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft which was held earlier this month.

McCluer outfielder Lance Jeffries, CBC pitcher Dave Schmidt and Francis Howell pitcher Brett Graves hope that Monday will be the first of many appearances at Busch Stadium. They were all drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Garrett Schlecht of Waterloo was drafted by the Chicago Cubs and shortstop David Masters was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Here is the roster for the Missouri All-Stars:

Pitchers: Brett Graves, Francis Howell; Chad Gendron, Oakville; Kyle Bouman, DeSmet; Dylan Terrell, Winfield; Chris Volpo, Francis Howell North; Carter Smith; Parkway West; and Jake Busiek, Lafayette.
