7 Things To Do Before Summer Ends

Summer isn't officially over until September, but school starts next week.

For families in Wentzville and Lake Saint Louis, summer will be over soon—despite the scorching temperatures. Classes start in the Wentzville School District on Aug. 15.

Now's the time to grab last minute summer fun. Temperatures are expected to remain in the high 90s for the next few weeks, but after highs of 105+, a 95 degree day may seem perfect for a walk in the park.

Here’s a few ideas on how to squeeze the last bits off fun out of your kid’s summer break.

Hit a park: Kids love playgrounds and the summer heat has been keeping a lot of children tucked away in their basements playing video games. If you still think it’s too hot, try going in the early morning or late evening hours. Try one of these parks with great playgrounds: and in Lake Saint Louis or and in Wentzville.

Go fishing: Wentzville's Rotary Park has a lovely lake. The kids can fish or count the ducks and frogs. You can always take some sand toys and let the kids play in the sand volleyball courts if they're not being used.

Go on a treasure hunt: Give the kids each a couple of dollars to spend at the Wentzvile Flea Market at the on Sunday mornings. Give them direction, like "find a Christmas present for Grandma" or "Find a nice toy we can donate to the Crisis Nursery (or another good cause)." They'll have a blast!

Enjoy a concert: You and the family can enjoy Pennsylvania Slim in concert at Windjammer Pointe in Lake Saint Louis on Saturday, Aug. 11 from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. Extra bonus: it's right on the lake, so you can enjoy the view and a cool breeze!

Get back to the Farm: Take the kids to a farmer's market and let them pick out some fruits and vegetables for a lovely summer salad. Both the Lake Saint Louis Farmers and Artists Market at and the Wentzville Farmers Market at the Community Club are open Saturday mornings.

Squeeze in a history lesson that's fun: Take the kids to St. Charles County's newest park, Towne Park, and read about the historic Boyd Mansion, which was built from the bricks of the famous Pink Plantation. Then try to find the pink bricks! (Here's a hint: they're easiest to spot near the back porch.) Towne Park also has some great nature play areas, too!

Volunteer: The Lake Saint Louis Triathlon on August 25 needs volunteers. Check the website to see how you can help.
