Lake Saint Louis Board of Alderman Honors Creve Coeur Youth for First Aid Donation

Daniel Lev took on the project after reading about first responders and military-grade first aid kits.

The Lake Saint Louis Board of Aldermen honored a young Creve Coeur resident at their April 16 meeting.

A city press release stated:

When Daniel Lev started preparing for his Bar Mitzvah last year, he took very seriously his duty to volunteer service to the community. Pledging some of the money he received as gifts and embarking on fundraising efforts, the thirteen-year-old vowed to purchase the items needed to bring the first aid kits of local, county and state police up to the standards of those used by the military in Iraq and Afghanistan.

. The idea for the project was prompted by an article about first-responders to the shooting scene in Arizona where Congresswoman Giffords was seriously injured. Those first responders used IFAKs, or Improved First Aid Kits, which include gloves, tactical tourniquets, primed compressed gauze, Israeli emergency bandages, nasopharyngeal airways, Surgilube and tape.

The Lake Saint Louis Police Department is now benefitting from Daniel's efforts by his donation of thirty-two tourniquets, fourteen emergency blankets, and fourteen IFAK kits. The department was chosen because of its size, Daniel's father Ronan Lev said. But they hope that fundraising efforts will allow distribution to more departments.
