Rotary Park to Host Young Cancer Patient's Early 4th of July Party

Alex Onkle, 6, of Lemay has been battling cancer since 2010. Some of his friends are making sure that he gets the 4th of July celebration he's been hoping for.

Alex Onkel has been battling Desmoplastic cancer since 2010. And the news lately hasn't been good. In fact, the latest news has been devastating for his family and a wide network of friends. He has little time left, and he is in a lot of pain.

Some of Alex's friends are Wentzville police officers. When Alex said that he wished he could ride in a police car, he got his ride. In fact, he was made an "officer" by former police chief Robert Noonan.

Alex has another wish. He'd like to have a Fourth of July celebration.

So Alex's friends are having one, this Sunday, April 29, at . They want to give Alex a wonderful, magical day, and also raise some money so that his mother can afford to stay home with him.

The event starts at 1 p.m. and goes until 6 p.m. There will be a D.J., clowns and pirates, a petting zoo, a magician, barbecue, a police car, firetruck and Army humvee. Alex's friends ask for a small donation to participate. Bring a lawn chair!

Wentzville's new mayor, Nick Guccione, has pledged his support by offering to shave his head if fundraising goals are met.
