Help Spread Wildflower Seeds

Fleur de Lis Garden Society made 548 mud balls at our January meeting with the help of the Girl Scouts, members and guests and now it's time to plant them. We will be meeting at the Rain Garden behind the St Peters Rec-Plex on Mexico Road at 9 am on Saturday, April 7, 2012.  This is a rain or shine event.  Please bring a long handled shovel to plant the mud balls that have wildflower seeds in them.

Greenway Network and Missouri River Relief will partner to remove trash from local streams and lakes. Mission: Clean Stream started as a joint effort to pick up some litter from publicly accessible creek areas. Register early and plan to wear sturdy shoes and bring gloves. Families, organizations and individuals can participate by calling the nearest community to register: Dardenne Prairie (636) 561-1718 (Meet at City Hall). Mission Clean Stream in St. Charles

Head to the , 1050 South Riverside Drive, at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 14 for Mission Clean Stream. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. (sign-up online HERE). Boats will ferry volunteers to the river banks and islands to pick up trash that has washed up on shore. Other volunteers, including youth groups, will pick up trash along the banks, trails and parking lots. Volunteers will receive a free boat ride, t-shirt, trash bags, gloves, lunch and reusable water bottle. Bring weather and work appropriate clothes. Long pants are preferred as weeds and poison ivy can be thick. Sturdy shoes or boots. No flip-flops or open-toed shoes allowed on boats. Sunscreen and bug spray.

Help Youth in Need Sell Raffle Tickets with St. Louis Magazine

Youth In Need is dedicated to building positive futures for the community’s most vulnerable children, teens and families. This year, St. Louis Homes and Lifestyles Magazine has selected Youth In Need (and our "Potentials" Resale Boutique) to be the recipient of all of the proceeds from their upcoming Kitchen and Bath Showroom Tour raffle. We just need one volunteer at eight different locations around St. Louis, Kirkwood, Webster Groves and Ladue. You will volunteer alongside a magazine employee, and will simply help to sell raffle tickets to raise money for Youth In Need. This volunteer opportunity runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14. Contact Beth Butcher, 636-757-9334, for more information.

Clear Invasive Plants from Creve Coeur Park

Help St. Louis Audobon Society eliminate bush honeysuckle from Creve Coeur Lake April 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The plant has no natural controls and is degrading the landscape for birds and native plants. You will cut the bushes with loppers and saws and apply herbicide to kill it. Bring work gloves and loppers or a saw (if you have them). Lunch and a limited supply of tools and gloves provided. Sign up by contacting Mitch Leachman, 314-599-7390. Take I-270 Exit 17 for Dorsett Rd and go west about 1.5 miles. Enter Park on right, just before light at Marine and take Streetcar Drive north. Continue past park office, ball field and tennis court to gravel parking lot on right.

Clean up Invasive Species in Ellisville

Join the Open Space Council as they partner with the City of Ellisville to remove Bush Honeysuckle, an invasive species, from forested areas of Bluebird Park. Meet at the Rec. Center at 9 A.M. All volunteers must sign a waiver in order to participate. Adults/scout troop leaders must supervise children under 12. All volunteers will be provided with training, tools, gloves, snacks, and water.  Scouts will receive patches. Wear boots/closed-toed shoes, long pants, and dress in layers.  Expect to volunteer until 12 P.M.

April 19

Fashion Show Fundraiser Clean Up
 is dedicated to building positive futures for the community’s most vulnerable children, teens and families. On April 19, we will need helping hands to clean up after our fundraiser! We will simply be putting away chairs, tables and doing some minor cleaning. We hope to leave the space in better shape than we found it! Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, April 19 at The Big Club Hall (on The Hill), 5200 Shaw Avenue. Contact Beth Butcher, 636-757-9334, to help.
