Why Man to Man Defense for Youth

All too often I see youth teams sitting back in a 2-3 zone exploiting the fact that most youth players cannot shoot from the outside.   They get their win, go home and feel good about themselves.  Reality is that unless youth teams are implementing the 2-3 like Syracuse University, kids are missing out on the basic fundamentals of defense.   It would benefit the kids more if the teams started teaching man to man at an early age.  Yes they might lose some games but they will be better prepared to compete in high school.  It is a lot easier to take a kid who has properly learned how to play man to man during his youth and teach him a 2-3 in high school.  It is very difficult to do the reverse.
