Cold Weather Tips to Keep Your Pet Happy and Healthy

Baxter turns today's column over to his friend Anita Branson, since he hates to think about cold weather.

With winter at our doorstep, it's time to review a few tips to keep our pets safe and healthy during the winter months. The website of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) offers these tips, plus more information for the care and well-being of your pets. First and foremost: Lake Saint Louis has two lovely lakes and a number of ponds in our parks and neighborhoods. Pets, like children, don't realize when ice is not thick enough to support them. Keep pets on a leash (and make sure your children know to stay off the ice!) Dogs can lose their normally sensitive olfactory abilities during a heavy snow and easily become lost.
