MoDOT Unveils 2013 St. Louis/St. Charles Area Road Construction Projects

The projects cost nearly $211 million and will include road and lane closures around the St. Louis area that begin next week.

The Missouri Department of Transportaion has a busy year planned for road construction in the St. Louis/St. Charles area. Tuesday, MoDOT officials unveiled detailed plans for five major projects around the St. Louis area in 2013 that total nearly $211 million.  "So it's a significant amount of money we're about to spend on roads around the state, around the region," explained Ed Hassinger, MoDOT District Engineer for the St. Louis region. Details for another project along Interstate 70 in St. Peters at Mid Rivers Mall Drive will come later this year. Westbound Blanchette Bridge To Close in Late Fall

Missouri Department of Transportation released the anticipated schedule for the repair of the westbound span of the bridge.

The closure of the westbound span of the Blanchette Bridge in St. Charles is expected to start in late fall 2012, according to a press release from the Missouri Department of Transportation. Walsh Construction Company, who is completing the $63 million rehabilitation of the bridge, will shift lanes to the eastbound bridge no earlier than Nov. 1. Three lanes of eastbound Interstate 70 and three lanes of westbound Interstate 70 would use the eastbound bridge, which would be divided with a concrete barrier. Each lane will be 11 feet wide with no shoulders. The speed limit will be 45 miles per hour. The westbound span of the bridge is expected to be closed for less than a year.
