UPDATE: Daily Slowdowns, Traffic Stops Begin Feb. 18 for Boone Bridge Work

The Missouri Department of Transportation needs to blast rock adjacent to the bridge as part of its renovation work. Expect delays. Here's details.

Updated with a new start date at 11:30 a.m. Friday. As if traversing the narrow Daniel Boone Bridge wasn't harrowing enough... Starting Feb. 18, the Missouri Department of Transportation will stop traffic across the bridge once a day in order to blast away nearby rocks as part of the department's reconstruction work on the span. The department had originally planned the shutdowns to start Monday, but wet conditions this week have slowed the work to prepare for the blasting originally scheduled to start Monday. Starting Feb. 18, the once-a-day bridge closures will take about 10 minutes and will occur at either 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. every day, beginning Monday, for approximately one month. Groundbreaking for New Boone Bridge Set for Thursday

The new bridge is set to open in 2014.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will break ground Thursday on a two-year, $110.9 million project to replace the 80-year-old westbound Boone Bridge over the Missouri River. READ MORE: New Boone Bridge Will Feature Bike Lane, Scenic Overlook The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday and will include MoDOT, contractor Walsh-Alberici Joint Venture, officials from the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission, elected officials and local business leaders. The event will be held on the St. Louis side of the river, on the North Outer Road where it dead ends at the Monarch Levee Trail in Chesterfield Valley next to the existing I-64 bridges.

MoDOT Updates for 2012 St. Charles County Projects

The Page Extension and two new Missouri River bridges top the list.

A press release issued by the Missouri Department of Transportation listed eight projects in St. Charles County in 2012 that "continue to improve the quality of life in the county and its connection to the region."

Two Semi-trailer Trucks Crash on Boone Bridge, Block I-64 Westbound

Drivers are advised to look for alternate routes.

The westbound lanes of Highway 40/I-64 near the Boone Bridge are currently blocked due to a traffic accident involving several vehicles.  Chesterfield Police Capt. Steve Lewis said traffic has begun to back up considerably and advised drivers via Twitter to look for alternate routes. Emergency crews are working to clear the scene, Lewis said, but there are no estimates for when traffic will be able to get through again.  Fox2's John Pertzborn reported via Twitter that the accident involved two tractor-trailers on the Boone Bridge, one of which jacknifed, according to KMOX reporter Brian Kelly. No injuries reported yet.

Nighttime Boone Bridge Lane Closure

Two westbound lanes will be closed each night this week.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has confirmed that it will close lanes on the westbound Daniel Boone Bridge over the Missouri River each night this week through June 3.  Crews will close up to two lanes at the Route 40/61 bridge over the Missouri River each night, starting at 10 p.m., to complete maintenance work, weather permitting. All lanes will be reopen by 5 a.m. the next morning.

MoDOT to Close Lanes on Highway 40

Need to restripe lanes on Boone Bridge.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will close up to two lanes on Route 40/61 near Spirit of St. Louis Bridge in Chesterfield Valley to paint the bridge, weather permitting. Crews will close one lane on westbound Route 40/61 near the bridge nightly starting at 7 p.m. Thursday. A second lane will close at 9 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning. Work on westbound Route 40/61 should be complete by 5 a.m. Monday. Crews will close one lane on eastbound Route 40/61 near the bridge nightly starting at 7 p.m. Monday. A second lane will close at 9 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning. Work on eastbound Route 40/61 should be complete by 5 a.m. Friday, May 13.
