Immanuel Lutheran School Breaks Ground On New Gym

Construction has begun on a new gym and cafeteria for Immanuel Lutheran School.

After a year of sharing a gym with the Wentzville R-IV School District, Immanuel Lutheran School is breaking ground on a new gymnasium. The new gym will be a large, regulation-size gymnasium with 1,500 square feet of kitchen and cafeteria space. School Principal Allison Dolak said staff members at Immanuel Lutheran have had to make due without a gym and a full service cafeteria for the past year. “The people that work here are very accommodating and very flexible, so they understood why we couldn’t have a gym right away and just worked to adapt.” Dolak said the new gym is necessary to accommodate the growing number of students at Immanuel Lutheran. “I feel really blessed to have the growing pains or growing issues that we have, because …

Serving Up Excellence: Green Tree Elementary Cafeteria Wins Award

School cafeteria is recognized for excellence in food safety.

Green Tree Elementary School has been recognized by the St. Charles County Department of Community Health and the Environment, earning the 24 Carrot Gold Food Safety Excellence Award.  Cafeteria manager Sherry McKernon praised her staff, which serves about 520 meals a day. "(They are) a great bunch of ladies, and they work hard every day," McKernon said. "They care a lot about the kids and they all have great attitudes!" To qualify for the award, a food service establishment must not have had any critical violations in the past year and 90 percent of managers must have food safety certification.
