Wentzville Hires New City Administrator

T. Michael McDowell is currently serving as the City Manager for Olivette.

The Wentzville Board of Aldermen has chosen a new City Administrator and will review the proposed contract at next week's regular meeting. T. Michael McDowell, who is currently employed as the city manager for the city of Olivette, was the board's choice from the five finalist candidates under consideration. According to a press release issued this morning by the City of Wentzville,McDowell has nearly 40 years of city manager/administrator experience, having worked in multiple suburban areas across four states. “Wentzville is a great place to live, work, and raise a family," McDowell said. Wentzville Hires Interim City Administrator

The city worked through Interim City Management, LLC to place George R. Kolb in the position.

The City of Wentzville has issued a press release that George R. Kolb will serve as the city's Interim City Manager as part of a contract the city approved with Interim Public Management, LLC. Kolb has 40 years of city management experience, a Masters of Public Administration degree and is a credentialed City Manager. The press release states that Kolb should be assuming his duties with the City of Wentzville on Sept. 5. According to the agreement with IPM, the city will pay $3,100 per week plus expenses, provide a city vehicle for business use and pay lodging for Kolb. The city has also contracted the Mercer Group to find a permanent City Administrator, and once that happens, Kolb will continue with the city for a 45-day transitional …

Wentzville to Pursue Possibility of Interim City Administrator

No costs would be incurred unless the city picked a candidate from those offered.

A representative from Interim Public Management spoke to the Wentzville Board of Aldermen Wednesday night about how his company's could serve the City of Wentzville by providing an interim city administrator until the city fills the position. The company provides municipalities with interim managers for short periods of time, which allows the community to focus on finding a permanent city administrator. The company would provide the names of two or three candidates, and the city would incur no cost unless they picked one of them. Cost for the interim city administrator would be based on the city's budget for the position, and on the experience of the person the city selected. Executive Search Firm to Present $21K Proposal to Board

After two rounds of unsuccessful interviews for the City Administrator position, the Wentzville Board of Aldermen is looking at the possibility of hiring a recruitment firm.

The Mercer Group, an Atlanta-based executive search firm, will present a proposal for recruiting a new city administrator to the Wentzville Board of Aldermen at the June 27 regular meeting. The firm would charge $21,000 for the recruitment process, broken down as follows: Mercer would hold meetings with the mayor, aldermen, department heads and community members to create a position profile. They would then meet with the board to discuss the top 8-10 candidates and get the board's feedback. After that, they would present the board with the top 3-5 candidates, facilitate interviews and assist with the selection of the new city administrator. Aldermen to Interview City Administrator Candidates

The city administrator position has been vacant since August 2011. Dennis Walsh has filled in on an interim basis.

More than a dozen city administrator candidates will be vetted by the Wentzville Board of Aldermen Saturday. The meeting is closed to the public.  Dianna Wright, the previous city administrator, left the post in August 2011 because of "irreconcilable differences" after she had held the job since June 2008. Aldermen appeared to have some sense of urgency finding a new city administrator at the board's meeting on Wednesday.
